Ones To Watch: Casanova The Plug

Casanova The Plug

Ones To Watch is a series created to showcase all the up and coming talents throughout of South London! We caught up with rapper Casanova The Plug to hear his musical journey so far and what’s next for him!

SDS: How have you been, how was lockdown for you?

Casanova The Plug: Life was fun I suppose, just chilled with my son really. I was never going to get that opportunity to spend so much time with my kid and no dad will to be honest, but I'm back at work now, back on the graft.

SDS: For those who might not know too much about you, tell us who is Casanova The Plug and where are you from?

Casanova The Plug: I'd say I'm just a family guy from South East London - Penge, Anerley. I'm just a young artist trying to get my way, trying to break into the scene to feed my family to be honest with you. Live comfortably and not have to work a 9-5 because let's be honest, we all hate a 9-5! It's not the best waking up at 8.30am and working to make someone else more money.

SDS: Where did the name Casanova The Plug come from?

Casanova The Plug: So in my past life I used to consider myself a bit of a ladies man haha but obviously I'm off the market now. You can say it's kind of a play or gimmick on who I used to be as I lived that life. I still speak about it in my lyrics, I still talk about girls because I lived that life and I'm the plug... I'm just the plug init haha.

SDS: Talk us through your single ‘London Boy’, what is it all about?

Casanova The Plug: Literally, I was listening to ‘American Boy’ by Estelle and Kanye West and I just thought this is it, this is a good sample that I can take. It was a play on what they both did with American Boy but London Boy instead - we the hottest in the world right now! The second verse is talking about the cruds and the first verse is introducing myself, "Good skin yout from the West Indies", and the second verse is, "You're shipping my ting on cargo, no pablo you can call man a narco'. It's literally me talking about myself and introducing myself because I am a London Boy and this is where I'm from.

SDS: If you could be a feature on any artist’s song, who would it be and why?

Casanova The Plug: Fact, it would have to be Vybz Kartel, there is no one better than the world boss! Can you imagine the summer banga you would get with Vybz Kartel, for the rest of your life, you would be the man. There's no one better than Vybz Kartel!

SDS: We saw that you’ve made an appearance on BBC's Tiny Happy People, talking about what it's like to be a parent. So what was that like and how did that come about?

Casanova The Plug: So BBC got in contact with me, I'm quite active on Instagram and stuff like that and I post my son regularly, he's the light of my world. It was a good day, we had a whole day of filming, I've also done a few other bits with them since - a couple interviews and stuff. They are trying to create this hub for fathers, there's not actually that much out there for fathers, for new fathers especially, so they are trying to create a hub which I think is really good and I think it's a really good push forward. I'm definitely going to do more work with the guys going forwards.

SDS: If you have to delete apps from your phone, which ones would you keep?

Casanova The Plug: I think that's an easy one, I'd have to keep WhatsApp 100%, no one uses iMessage anymore haha. Instagram has to be kept for all the music promotion and...Twitter. Those 3 I’d keep, everything else can go.

SDS: What are your plans musically for the rest of the year?

Casanova The Plug: Videos are my next move and just seeing where it takes me a moment. You can't even plan it, I'm seeing people blow like random, but like I said I'm not looking to blow, I'm looking to be around for a long time! I don't just want one banga that's going to go off, you just hear from me that one time and next time I drop a tune you're not really going to want to listen. I want people to be like, “he's got a catalogue, let me go back a listen to him". So I'm just trying to build that at this moment.
