Hailing from Croydon, South London, with a name that carried a dash of mystery we have young rapper Jhaz joining our Ones To Watch list! Making waves with his latest track, "BTC." drawing parallels between his music career and the explosive rise of Bitcoin, Jhaz's raw talent and authentic style are poised to take the music scene by storm.
SDS: Why the name Jhaz? Where did it come from?
Jhaz: To be honest it was random. I was in school one time and one guy I know just started calling me Jhaz out of the blue haha, since then I just ran with it because I liked it.
SDS: How long have you been rapping for?
Jhaz: On and off for 4 years now. I started when I was 15 but I didn’t believe in myself that much so I was a bit unserious. I was impatient when I was younger so I stopped temporarily during sixth form and focused on my A Levels but I never stopped making music. I improved over time and when I got to a stage where I felt good enough to proudly share my music it was around 2023. This time I’m not doing it half-heartedly, watch out for me!
SDS: Which rappers inspire you?
Jhaz: None to be honest I have a of respect for many artists but to say I’m inspired by them would be a drag. My inspiration comes from the people around me.
SDS: You recently released a new single called “BTC”, talk to us about it.
Jhaz: “BTC” is more than just a song, it’s a statement. It’s me saying right now I’m a nobody in this music thing but the way I’m going to push through to become one the goats, you can compare that to how Bitcoin blew up back in the day!
“Invest in me from young, watch me blow up like BTC”. This music thing is a journey and you’re all going to witness me going from a nobody to a legend!
SDS: What’s been your favourite performance to date?
Jhaz: Definitely, the ACS event I did in November 2023. That’s the most people I have performed in front of and it gave me a proper glimpse of how life is going to be for me in the future.
SDS: If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Jhaz: Definitely not here hahaha, I need to travel more to give you my best answer. If I had to pick right now it’s definitely Yard (Jamaica) that’s where most of my family is so it’s only right.
SDS: Outside of music, what are some of your hobbies or interests that fans might be surprised to learn about?
Jhaz: Gym is a big thing for me, I used to do boxing for a bit, that was good and I like to spend time with my people. I like travelling too even though I’ve barely left the country haha. We live next year though.
SDS: What is your number one goal in life?
Jhaz: I'd say it's to change my life and lives of the people around me. So that we can live our dream lives, we can do what we want, moneys not a problem and literally just enjoy life!
SDS: What 3 things can you not live without?
Jhaz: Music, of course, money and my family, blood-related and not.
SDS: If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be and why?
Jhaz: Probably Dave you know, I remember one time he came to my school and I was showing him around, so yeah that would be nice still. He also never fails to make a song better when he spits a verse on it, so we’d definitely make history if we went on a track together.
SDS: What’s the most rewarding part about being an artist?
Jhaz: I’m quite early in my career so it might change but right now it’s definitely performing which is weird because I don’t really like the attention, I’m quite to myself. But when I go on stage that rush that I get, there’s nothing like that so it’s definitely performing.
SDS: How do you hope people will describe you?
Jhaz: I hope they describe me as a positive influence, gifted and somebody who is destined for greatness.
SDS: What can people expect from you going forward?
Jhaz: A lot more music, expect to be impressed!
