A landmark moment in comic book history took place on Monday 10th October, where DC Comics announced that one of their superheroes was coming out as bisexual.
The storyline is about Jon Kent, the son Clark Kent aka Superman and Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, who followed in his father’s footsteps of saving the world and becoming known as ‘the Superman of Earth’. It is reported that in the Nov.9 issue of “Superman: Son of Kal-El #5”, Jon Kent will fall for reported Jay Nakamura.
The storyline was released on National Coming Out Day, an annual LGBTQ+ awareness day. It’s one of the most high profile examples of the comic book industry expanding their LGBTQ+ representations. This follows the DC announcement back in August that Batman’s faithful sidekick Tim Drake aka Robin also came out as bisexual.
